FTC accuses Amazon of nightmare IoT security fails • The Register
One of my coping mechanism in life is, when presented with a new opportunity, to envision the worst case scenario. It could be total embarrassment, financial destitution, or even death. I’m not scared of embarrassment, going broke would suck but it’s not the end of the world, and if I die it’s not really my problem anymore. Bar injury, I’m often able to convince myself to try anything. But, given the opportunity to let Amazon into my home, I’d rather run over hot coals. I cannot imagine any sane person who’d knowingly let strangers working at Amazon unfettered access to their lives. Often the people who claim they would, or already do, aren’t fully visualizing what that means:
From The Register: “The complaint details one employee who, the FTC said, “viewed thousands of video recordings belonging to at least 81 unique female users,” and “focused his prurient searches on cameras with names indicating that they surveilled an intimate space, such as ‘Master Bedroom,’ ‘Master Bathroom,’ or ‘Spy Cam’.””
